The Maimonides Centre for Advanced Studies invites applications for a research associate (fixed-term contract/3.5 years, salary level 14 TV-L). The position commences on April 1, 2020. The application deadline is on January 3, 2020.

The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on April 1, 2020.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed until September 30, 2023. The position calls for 39 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
Specific Duties
The successful candidate will focus her/his research on early modern Jewish philosophy and religion with a special emphasis on Haskala.
In addition to research, the successful candidate will be in charge of MCAS’s "Yearbook." The position requires participation in MCAS's events and an active engagement in MCAS's activities.
Requirements
A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. A degree in Jewish philosophy or Jewish/Judaic studies is preferred.The candidate must have a strong background in Jewish philosophy. His/Her research should be directly conntected to a field relevant to MCAS's research focus.
In addition, the following skills and work experience are required:
- Very good knowledge of English
- The knowledge of additional languages relevant for the project, such as Hebrew, Arabic, French, Latin, Greek, etc.
- Proven experience in publishing and editing academic publications (e.g. monographs, editions, proceedings, translations)
Applicants not proficient in German are expected to acquire proficiency in due time.
